Celebrating 60 years of music making in 2012
The Aldeburgh Music Club has about 100 members who sing with professional soloists and orchestras in local venues. The Club was formed in 1952 by Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears.
Our 2011/12 season opened with Mendelssohn's Elijah on 26 November 2011 in Snape Maltings Concert Hall. This was followed by our 60th Anniversary Concert which was held in St Bartholomew’s Church, Orford, on 10 March 2012 with the world premiere performances of Suffolk-based Elis Pehkonen’s Home from the Sea, and Merman by the choir’s composer-in-residence, Joanna Lee. Also in the programme were two pieces by Haydn - Salve Regina and the Missa Brevis, and two by Mozart - Ave Verum Corpus and one of the so-called ‘Salzburg Symphonies'.
Our next concert will be Verdi's Requiem on Saturday 19 May 2012 at Snape Maltings Concert in which we will be joined by the Phoenix Singers.
